My journey in the AT Proto world

For the last couple of months I was a quiet builder and tryer.

Back then, Bluesky was for me a good alternative to Twitter/X and the fascism coming to us quickly. It's only with the last months that I got really pleasure browsing posts in Bluesky, retrieving talented people, looking at the next microblog I could and reading the article about atproto from Dan Abramov (big fan), it reminded me a post from kepano file over app.

Before that, it's been since 2021 that I'm getting serious about taking notes. Why so? I've always had this feeling to be the child in the room, when discussing with people, everyone seemed to have strong opinion about things. I didn't and agreed with people disagreeing against each other. It shocked me more than once to not be able to counterargument misogynist point of view or "we can't say anything now" or "racism doesn't exist and positive discrimination is the real racism against white people". So I read, so I wrote and starting little by little. My voice counted.

Lite Note

Lite Note comes from the need to write more and to have fun doing it. Developers love to create the blog before writing blog posts because, you know, we're developers... It was the same for me. I liked the idea of How to Take Smart Notes, I loved the concept of permanent notes with links from Andy Matuschak's working notes - plus I wanted something simple and private because I'm shy.

Keeping it simple

The idea of the web was truly inspirational, information made by all for all is a utopia I still want to believe in. In his book Resilient Web Design, Jeremy Keith reminds us that what made the web so popular is its simplicity.

So no Notion, why not Obsidian but the [[]] links were already too fancy. I also loved the idea of File over app from kepano

Keeping it private

A GitHub private repo looks nice. Start with a README.md file and you're good to follow links.

The need for sharing

It's been 5 years now since I started this journey. Having over 800+ notes is already an accomplishment I can be proud of. These notes helped me be more assertive about what I truly believe, express about social and politic subjects, they are the first step. But I need to go to another level and find a place in this world. Enter AT Proto. With Dan Abramov and his article A Social Filesystem, I was eager to extend Lite Note. It is time to open the garage door...

The perfect cli

Made by Steve Dylan, Sequoia is a cli that syncs notes to your PDS.

The best ops

Colas.dev made the infra possible for Remanso. In the process, we learned, we laughed and we mainly debugged. He was the ear I needed to express all the things I thought I understood but not really. Sorry and thank you.

Conclusion

I rarely bring a project to a point where I'm fully proud of it. Remanso is not perfect, but it has everything I need to feel a sense of fulfillment. It serves a cause I care about: "Learn, Think, Write, Share".
